Literature Circles

Literature Circles continue!

Periods 1, 5, and 6 are reading The Contender by Robert Lipsyte. It’s better if you have your own copy (so you can highlight and write notes in the book, and in case you get behind), but I have copies of the book you can read in class or during tutoring. I cannot checkout copies of the books. Your worksheet (passed out today) will be due around 1/26, once we’re done with chapters 1-4.

Periods 2 and 7 are reading one of these four novels:

  • The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare
    • Chapters of each section: 1-5, 6-10, 11-16, 17-21
  • The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
    • Chapters of each section: 1-9, 10-18, 19-27, 28-35
  • Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt
    • Chapters of each section: 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12
  • The Glory Field by Walter Dean Myers
    • Chapters of each section:
      • chapter 1 (first page) through chapter 9
      • 10 (“Elijah watched as Hamlin Turner shook his head…”) through chapter 17
      • 18 (“The very pit of Luvenia’s stomach seemed suddenly absent…”) through chapter 28
      • 29 (“The night passed with the men sitting in the parlors of Curry Island…”) through the end of the book (chapter 38, the epilogue)

It is highly recommended period 2 and 7 students buy the book. The rough draft worksheets have been handed out, and the final copy worksheets (typed) are due 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, and 2/16. Please bring a USB flash drive to class on Thursday and Friday each week. Turn in your work printed or emailed.
